I am waaaaaaaaaaaaay too obsessed with the internet. Seriously. Though I have to say? Even if the first step is admitting you have a problem... I'm quite happy to stay at that first step. It's way too much fun here! :)

...WTF.

Well, there goes my good mood for the day.

NYTimes, the bastion of quality reporting, reported on the gang-rape of an 11 year-old girl in Texas  that's led to charges against 18 high-school boys so far - all well and good so far, right?  Shit like this NEEDS publicity to raise awareness.

Only problem is, they repeated - without refutation or critical commentary - the claims that the girl brought the rape on herself because of the way she was dressed.

Choice Quotes (No cut b/c everyone needs to see this - DEAL.):

“It’s just destroyed our community,” said Sheila Harrison, 48, a hospital worker who says she knows several of the defendants. “These boys have to live with this the rest of their lives.  As opposed to the victim, who's gonna bounce back lickety-fucking-split, right?

Residents in the neighborhood where the abandoned trailer stands — known as the Quarters — said the victim had been visiting various friends there for months. They said she dressed older than her age, wearing makeup and fashions more appropriate to a woman in her 20s. She would hang out with teenage boys at a playground, some said.  TOTALLY BEGGING FOR IT.

THIS IS RAPE CULTURE, PEOPLE.

Now, what's being said and done in this community is bad enough, but the NY Times should be fucking ashamed of themselves right now.

wow, time sure flies...

... when you're working your tail off! teaching SK is awesome, the kiddies are amazing, and my new job is fantastic (though it doesn't pay QUITE as much as i made last year, the work environment and the support are infinitely worth it!)

i'm still rockin' the fandoms, probably way more than i should, but there you go. as always, bouncing and obsessing for a few months on one then going off to devour everything available at another. i may be a serial monogamist when it comes to the fandoms, but at least i stay loyal! once i fall in love with one, i always return, showing up like a bad penny! *laughs*

y'all are wonderful! xx

so sorry it's been this long since my last post - i've been sssuuuuuupper busy with school, and living in a foreign country hasn't allowed for a lot of downtime either.

i'm currently procrastinating a paper like crazy, hence the new post! i've been indoctrinated into a new fandom (darn you S and L) so even the time i do have to relax tends to be taken up with teh wonderful Sam and Dean, Dean and Sam. mmm. and, you know, the accompanying fic etc. that goes with them. i've found a few authors that are just spectacular, so yay!

i've also enabled two other friends. they are now Supernatural Freaks as well. woot! i am in good company here!

anyway, enough procrastinating. but i miss my downtime (hopefully there'll be more come summer) and i miss lj... ttyl, i hope. :)

Balanced, Secure, and Realistic.

Impressionism is a movement in French painting, sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist paintings are balanced, use colored shadows, use pure color, broken brushstrokes, thick paint, and scenes from everyday life or nature.

People that like Impressionist paintings may not alway be what is deemed socially acceptable. They tend to move on their own path without always worrying that it may be offensive to others. They value friendships but because they also value honesty tend to have a few really good friends. They do not, however, like people that are rude and do not appreciate the ideas of others. They are secure enough in themselves that they can listen to the ideas of other people without it affecting their own final decisions. The world for them is not black and white but more in shades of grey and muted colors. They like things to be aestically pleasing, not stark and sharp. There are many ways to view things, and the impresssionist personality views the world from many different aspects. They enjoy life and try to keep a realistic viewpoint of things, but are not very open to new experiences. If they are content in their live they will be more than likely pleased to keep things just the way they are.

wow, the time's going quickly!
i've finished first placement here in Edinburgh, and have settled nicely into life in Scotland. i'm LOVING it here, even when the cost of everything gets to me, or when - like for the last week - i've been pretty deathly ill. the people have grown ever nicer, and i've made some amazing friends in the Canadian contingent. :)
i've seen some parts of Scotland that make me long to settle here long term, though i have no clue if i'd be able to feasibly support myself in those parts - remote villages don't necessarily need more primary teachers.
i'm amazed, actually, to note that it's October 5th already! i've been here for two months! and though i am looking forward to going home at Christmas, i'm no longer counting down the weeks.
... this may change after going back to lectures this coming week. placement and working with children is SO much more appealing than sitting still for hours listening to others blather on and on and ON...
:)
i hope everyone's year is turning out as great as mine, and i miss you all!
cheers,
